Doesn't the New Testament say to give as purposed in your heart? Isn't it funny how much they preach about giving and how little they preach on grace? I wonder what motivates them? God is the provider.

The Gathering Church Sevierville, TN is one to be watched very closely. Leave your wallet at home!!! Gene Wolfenbarger is a very good speaker, and he will make you believe God wants you to do a few things that are un-biblical.
The Gathering Church in Sevierville has a tv show called walking in the light that they started to reach out to others peoples pockets since they already abused the pockets of the local people. if you read about the gathering church in sevierville, tn online you will see Gene Wolfenbarger's greed affecting others.
RC - you're absolutely right. That's exactlly what happens there. If you really pay close attention to all of the fund raising at The Gathering in Sevierville done by Gene Wolfenbarger you will see that there's never a detailed accounting of the funds distributed after the event. As a matter of fact, there's never been a detailed accounting of the funds for ANYTHING. That's what the problem is and that's why I left.
My sister goes there and likes it. She is poor and doesnt have anything to give anyway. I want to know about the preaching. Is it biblical or just prosperity messages?
I attended the Gathering many years ago for a year or so. The messages were all about Gene with a little God tucked in here and there. I am so sorry to tell you that Gene is only concerned about members who have money. He only acknowleged us because he liked our car and had someone come to our home to check us out for "approval." Please pray that your sister's eyes will be opened to the truth.
The messages aren't 'prosperity' like you see on the tv shows but it's not far from it. He's very good at making you believe you are doing The Lord's work but just because he backs his claims with one sentence from The Bible does not mean that his messages are Biblical .... I heard recently that all of this year's chest of joash is going to help orphans. I say prove it. Show where each exact penny goes directly to an orphan. He will probably give all of the money to the lord's child citing that it is the same thing but it's not. The finances are NOT legit and the gathering does NOT have any oversight in the spending by the congregation.
What christmas presents are you talking about? In the past, he has bought a brand new toyota for his son right after a thanksgiving offering ....

Nope ... there's way more than that too. He always says how he gives 30 percent and more of his income to the church (which cleans it from income tax) but, what people don't see is that the church pays for his gas, his truck, his wife's car, going out to eat, clothes, etc ... It would be easy to give that much when everything else has been given to you, wouldn't it? Now THATS not what I call 'EQUAL SACRIFICE'!
It's really sad....I think one day he will fall. I've seen it happen to too many pastors who get ahead of God and become that arrogant and prideful.
'm a pastor at a little church and I get paid less than $16,000 a year. I have spent some time at The Gathering visiting. I find it interesting that there are a handful of unnamed authors on the same sites under the categories of the church, the name of the pastor, and the name of one of their ministries bashing them on-line stating everything from they won't let anyone see their finances to how they spend their money (not sure how the first can be true with you knowing the later). I find it interesting that you complain about a lack of talking about grace while that is all I heard about there and it's what I see lacking here. Maybe it's time to stop bashing and do some soul searching of your own on your own actions? This appears to be a select few who have personal agendas.... Prayers....
Sorry mister. You haven't attended the church long term so there's no way you can really judge the place or know Gene Wolfenbarger the way regular attenders do!
I went there for a short time and all this man preached on was give me your money...i have to agree with everyone when they say watch out for this man and this church...

I went to the gathering when. lived in tenn a year ago and i loved it .Dosnt it say you r supposed to tith and if you give he will take care of you it sounds to me you have no faith i dont have a lot of money either but i always had enough my son was saved there i was saved there and i found god in those walls and with the people maybe you all need to pray a little more and just focus on your salvation and have faith in the lord and pray for him as the bible says to pasters are human to and there is a lot of folks who have found our lord inside that church

l have been at the Gathering for about 2 years l am a ordained minister of the gospel of Jesus Christ for 27 years from the continent of Africa l accompanied Pastor Gene on a mission trip to Africa so that means l am not only part of a great church l also stayed with the most humble gracious and a loving and forgiving man l know.ln pastoring a church there are many needs and unfortunately the pastor has the most difficult and judgemental job of sharing it with the church and seeking their support to meet those needs. When we go online and slander the child of God knowing just parts of the truth or even all the truth than be sure you will reap what you sow. Please be at liberty to call Pastor Gene and get all the facts before you slander this man of God. Please remember he has been blessed with a godly wife and 2 God fearing sons. ln future give your money to God and not a man or a church from whom all blessings flow. Remember every man will give an account to God and not to us for every evil or good he or she has committed so continue to pray for every servant of God as their struggles and battles is only known to God Almighty
If you have a problem with a Pastor the church challenges us to GO to that person and confront them. Reconcilliation. God pushes us together to make it right. The Devil pushes us away and starts blogs and gossips. I just came from the church and they poured into the lives of me and my family. Go and make it right. Talk to them and take this web site down.
Hello, my name is Donna Cade. I went to the Gathering for over a year. I meet alot of Godly brothers and sister's. I was proud to call this church my home. In fact, I miss it greatly. I was an infant growing there, because I was raised in a broken home. These people was my family. My daughter became a teen age Mother. This church support her with love and guidence for God. Her pastor Chuck and his wife gave her a car so she could take her son back and forth to the doctor and go to work to support her son. The church gave her a baby shower. It truly break's my heart to read the thing's I have read tonight. If any of us do wrong, we will answer to God. Let's look into our on soul's and ask God to fix our broken soul's. Thou shall not judge! I love each and every one of you. I miss Pastor Gene's message. Thank you Pastor Gene, for letting God use you to bring me closer to him. Aman!!!
Ashley wiley and family moved to florida and now work at a church plantd by a pastor from the gathering! I love my church the Gathering and we do love people and Pastor Gene is not the bad things all you guys claim he is. AND i have been there 9yrs.
Hey my family and I loved the church the 1st 2 or 3 times we went. Then all we heard at service was money money money. Where is God in all that. They actually have an ATM right at the entrance of the sanctuary. Really come on Gene you are a JOKE in the eyes of your town. You deserve to lose that church and now see how the people of your church feels. God is good Gene you suck!!!!!!!!!!
